Reflection

Today's finally the dateline for submission as we compile all our printed materials to be filed and submitted. Throughout this project, it has been a fun experience with my fantastic groupmates despite the hard times we had.

I learnt many things upon the completion of this project. There were plenty of ups and downs but finally we managed to survive through the whole project. I learnt the importance of communication within my group and the need to keep myself updated throughout the project so that i do not get lost somewhere. We faced many problems along the way to complete our project such as computers not working, the need to restart the computer every so often just so that we can carry on with our projects and differing opinions within the group since we are all unsure of how the project should look like in the end.

Important values i learnt through the completion of this project are perseverance, determination and diligence. Perseverance is important as we faced a lot of setbacks while doing the project. If we had not encouraged each other and pushed on till the end, we would not have been able to complete the project earlier or even in time. Being determined to accomplish the goal we set for completing project as early as we can, we managed to attain our goal with sheer determination of not giving up. Also, we had to come back for multiple project meetings during the 2 weeks break we had and diligently try to complete as much of the project as we can for each and every meeting.

ACCPAC being a new and unfamiliar software to me, has shown that it does help to make the job of accountants easier despite it being a complicated tool to use. Without the need to calculate figures over and over again while helping in the reduction of errors when entering entries made the workload of accountants lighter and less taxing on their minds. However, it takes alot of time to master the software and to use it at will with ease.

Despite the fact that the labs are not always available for us to do our project, we stayed back as much as we could to fit into the timeslots where the labs are free for usage in order to complete our project as soon as we could. There are times of frustration when the computers create endless problems for us but going to the lab nearly became a daily routine already.

Finally, I would like to thank my great and fun groupmates for making this project an enjoyable one.

Submission

As mentioned in the first post, starting off was never easy with Accpac, but thanks to my awesome group members, it made learning fun for all of us. I feel that the phrase "Time is what you make of it" really applies to us, despite having to juggle multiple submissions at once, we still managed to finish our task 2 days early, I think that mainly because we had a goal whenever we started each session and that we did not abandon it pushed us to compelete it prior to the dateline.
Ive done mainly the Chart of accounts, opening balances, GL data entry form and theory questions, and the rest of the sections had some input from me.

I learned that communication with one another is really important when dealing with such task because many a time, and i dare say that I did not know where the previous person doing has left off or what he/she has done in the latest saved file, which led to me being invalid to help with the project. Besides this, arguments were also frequent within the group on deciding which way the entries should be entered, because no one knew who was right or wrong, we were in unchartered terrortories; remember? Nevertheless, the disputes were clarified after going through trial and error where we either got the entries right, or we had to go back to "Last Saved Point".

Another important value which i felt that my members had was perseverance, without it, i think this project would just fall apart, they did not give up despite having to face numerous disobedient computers or errors in the program, all this which we have long lost count of. Everytime we face a set-back, we would give ourselves some time to think over what we've done wrong and how we can make it right(maybe this is where the HOTS section from the evaluation form comes in). We've spent the longest hours in the lab this semester for this project which we could forsee and most which was put to good use.
And then there are times where we just have to wait for classes to clear out or going through a barricade of students just to get the computer. The time slots are never right, its either the lab being free when we're not, or us being free when the lab isnt. Having perseverance is a good thing, because the thought of not being able to complete the project is dreadening.

Accpac - What we've been playing with the past few months, I definately would agree that it makes the life of keeping the accounts easier thanks to everything being computerized, where human balancing errors are a thing of the past and where bringing down the wrong balancing figures are no more. The system will keep the accounts in order and i think this takes alot of the
already taxing mind of an accountant. It is a win-win situation for both the company and the accountants, because there would be lesser errors, and the accountants time at work can be used more efficiently to complete more task which requires the human touch.
Having spent that much time in those labs sure becomes sort of a nature to me, it feels natural going there, theres a sense of belonging because the faces become familiar through time and the sounds of paper printing gets etched in my mind.

So finally, we are down with CAS. But I like it to be Chim And Stuffs. It has been a pressuring journey to begin with. From the chart accounts all the way to recurring entries. We have come a long way and I'm so proud to say that we are finally done. Well, now we can only wait patiently if our hardwork paid off.

Last week, GST was a killer. I hope that everything could be standardised on whether we should key in GST or not as this could cause confusion between two parties. But the matter is already settled, we can either have it with GST or don't. We even managed to finish up on the Part 1 of the project. Even though the questions looks really easy, there was alot of things that has to be written down.

ACCPAC is an awesome software which actually makes an accountant job easier. It's just that as an accountant, we need to know on where, how, what and what not to key in. Sure it can be difficult, but as long as we practice it day by day, I'm sure we can also master it. Even though ACCPAC makes it easier, we should not always take it for granted as the background of accounting is still needed. It definitely has taught me to be cautious with what I key in, because a single financial value or a selecting a wrong account can cause problems.

Our net loss increased majorly after we did amendments. It's scary because to think back, where did all the losses came from this time? But anyway, we have decided not to do anymore amendments and seal our answers. I'm glad that my group managed to print the thick stack of papers two days before the dateline. Now that's an accomplishment.

So, tomorrow is the final day. I hope the submission of our project will go just fine. (:

Tomorrow is the dateline for CAS but i am not worried about the submission at all because.... we have completed our project on Wed afternoon! Woohoo!

I have learnt alot in this ACCPAC Project. We were lost at some parts of the project but we managed to come up with the solution. Now, not all the guides were given in our ACCPAC guidebook and hence we had to learn it on our own, figure it out on our own.

I would say that ACCPAC did make me very frustrated at times, especially when there are mistakes and we had to trace back to the other files and reedit again. Nevertheless, we have no problem with that as we make sure that we save our files before going on to a next major part of the project.

I have learnt how to handle GL,AR and AP better in the ACCPAC system after this few months of doing project. I helped out with the part of the entering of transactions, chart of accounts, AR, sorting out the void check, the theory section of the project and printing of the things from the reports.

We had about 12 to 14 project sessions starting from the 2wks of june holidays. Besides ACCPAC Proj, we also had to put aside some time for other projects. Hence, we did most of the things ( chart of accounts, AP, AR, GL) during the holidays and did more amendments ( GST, Recurring entry, Void Check, Unique Entry) after the holidays.

We have been staying back this few days just to finalise the project and to print the stuffs. Although the printers in school are irritating, but when the things got printed out, we had a sense of satisfaction. Yes, tat's it. Our last major project for this sem.

Through this project, i have learnt that good communication between good members is very important. We pulled each other together to complete this project. This project has been a tedious one as there were alot of things that were needed to be done. Im glad that we have started our project early during the holidays and were able to pace our progress of the project well.

Having good members in this project ensure that things are going smoothly. They taught me when i did not understand. They were very patient with me and ensures that i understood what they were saying before going on to the next part of the project.

We should also learn to be more understanding towards one another. Different people had different opinions and we had to listen to what each had got to say. We correct if we think that he/she is wrong.

Although there are abit of disagreements between us, i feel that my group is one of the best groups. They will always make it for the project when i think that its time to do this and that.
They were willing to sacrifice their holidays to go back school and start on the project. I have enjoyed myself in this ACCPAC Project.

FINALLY

Finally done with the CAS project! So heres how i feel about the whole project...

Was kinda lost when we first started on the project. Then slowly, we started to get a hang of ACCPAC and we managed to continue efficiently. Of course we encountered some problems, like having different opinions, not able to continue cos we were totally stucked and etc...

ACCPAC is convenient but its really hard to understand and master. This project gives me the feel of being an accountant and it makes me wonder if being an accountant is really the right choice for me.

Im really glad that we have completed the project 2 days before the submission date! Proud of my team! Heres a picture of what we are going to hand in in two days time...

Time time time

Yes!! finally finished the GL data entry form for batches 1 and 2, i think this is the most physically taxing task compared to everything ive done in CAS LOL, I think the refering alone is enough to kill me already.

Oh and some pics of us which were taken during the holidays whilst in lab 8/9

Hello screen.

Yup, enjoying our term break with Accpac the Arid :D

Nxt friday is the dateline for this CAS proj. It has been a really fruitful one as i got to know more of the functions and cool stuffs in ACCPAC. Nevertheless, i have group members that are rather strong in ACCPAC and they are able to teach me more stuffs.

We still have abit more to complete and tat's it! I have a very uncertain feeling for this project because we really dont know which is right and wrong. We had to discuss alot of times to come up with the final answer.

We have just found out that there's a error in our proj. Okay, im not defeated by it cuz we still have our backups! heng arrrr. LOL.

Cheong ar, groupmates! :)
